Shingles is a debilitating condition, which occurs more frequently and tends to be more severe in older people. It is estimated that around 250,000 people are affected in England and Wales each year including 30,000 people in their 70s.
From 1 April 2019, we will be offering the shingles vaccination (called Zostavax) to:
- Patients aged 70 years. Vaccination can be offered on or after they reach their 70th birthday but not before.
- Patients in their 70’s who have not yet had the vaccine and who have not yet reached their 80th birthday.
The programme does not offer the vaccine to patients aged 80 years or older.
To book an appointment please telephone the surgery, but please remember that we are only allowed to give the shingles vaccine to patients in the relevant age groups.
